3 Steps to Take Towards Your Dreams Today

3 Steps to Take Towards Your Dreams Today

Like Cinderella says, “A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep.”

But not all dreams happen while we are asleep. Some dreams are planted into us while we are awake. Those dreams are contrived by our passion to change the world, to leave a legacy, to make our life matter.

We all crave purpose. We want to know why we were put on the Earth at this specific time and place in the world. And as a result, each of us have a dream placed somewhere deep inside ourselves that both terrifies and excites us – because that dream could be the dream that give us true purpose in our life.

Maybe we don’t think about too often because we have practical things to do. There are groceries to be bought, laundry to be washed, work projects to complete.

You know what those are called?

Distractions

We like to use those distractions as excuses to say no. But what if we didn’t allow that fear to paralyze us? What if we didn’t push the dream down deep inside our hearts, and instead made practical steps to move towards our dream?

What if we allowed ourselves to open our hearts and actually dream?

What if we didn’t just stop at dreaming and started doing?

3 Steps to Take Towards Your Dreams Today

Dream Big, Start Small

If you know you want to achieve your dreams, you have to dream big and start small. Set realistic goals. Start with baby steps. You can’t expect to run a marathon if you’ve never ran a 5k. So start by running a mile, then sign up for a 5k, and a half marathon. After enough training, you will be ready for that full marathon.

If you have a dream of opening up a bakery one day, then take small, active steps towards opening up your bakery! Take baking classes, bake cake pops from your home, get a business degree if you have to. Your dream may not be for today, or tomorrow. Your dream may be for 20 years down the road, but if you start setting small goals today, you are more likely to achieve it than if you started tomorrow.

Discipline Yourself

The other day I was watching Asaake’s Instastory (from Asakemi.) She posted a picture at 2am answering the question “How does she do it all?” Asaake consistently blogs while killing it in grad school. She does it all by  choosing her priorities (and staying up late.) She checks off her responsibilities and still makes time to follow her dreams.

If you know that accomplishing your dream requires an extra hour in a day, then find that hour. Look at your schedule, add in the little things you do that are not necessary. Where can you carve out one extra hour? It may require to give up that 15 minutes of Facebook scrolling, but let’s be real – how many of us are better off for Facebook scrolling? None of us.

If I’m being honest with myself, I love when I’m disciplined enough to say NO to the scroll and say YES to doing something productive that moves me towards my dream.

Surround Yourself with Supportive People

Last week I made the mistake of telling my husband about a goal I had promised myself last year. When I told him about the teeny dream inside my heart, he said, “OK, well that’s what you’re going to do.” I then spent the entire evening making an outline of realistic goals I could set towards accomplishing a small dream.

For the past week, and for the next foreseeable future, I’ve been consumed with holing myself away to work on something that has been in the back of my mind for almost 10 years. And my awesome, supportive husband has been taking it all in stride. He not only encourages me to work on meeting my goals, but he also enthusiastically participates in dreaming out loud with me.

When you know you are ready to move towards making small steps to accomplish your dream, you have to surround yourself with supportive people. You have to have a person to stand behind you and cheer for you when you triumph, encourage you when you fail, and push you to go on when you’re just too tired.

So what small step are you going to take towards your dream today?

5 Blog Goals for 2015!

Each January, I get out a pen and notebook and write down goals I have for the year. As different aspects of my life grow and mature, I have to make separate lists of goals that I have.

For instance, my goal for my hair this year is to grow four more inches and to platinum blonde all by itself so I can have real life Elsa hair. Unfortunately, my hair will probably stay what some people call “dishwater blonde,” but I prefer to say it’s “bronde.” My hair literally has no clue what it wants to do.

I made some blogging goals last year, a few of which I didn’t accomplish. I had a goal to open sponsorships – I did that, but after having trouble with Passionfruit and also struggling to juggle sponsorships with school, I closed my sponsorship opportunity for the time being. I also had a goal to buy my own domain name, something that I have since put on the back burner. 2014 literally flew by, and so I didn’t finish all that I wanted to as far as the blog goals go. This year, though, I hope to become an even better blogger and here are the goals that I hope to accomplish:

1. Become a more organized blogger. If I don’t have a schedule or a plan, my blogging life can go either way. It’s easy for me to push off doing blog stuff if it’s convenient, and its’ easy for me to spend all day in my pajamas consumed by flipping through blogs, editing pictures, and pinteresting until the sky turns dark. Plus, becoming organized will really benefit the whole of blogging.

BLOGGING TAKES OVER YOUR LIFE
.

2. Do Things, so that I have something to blog about. I realize that I can only do so many posts about Netflix, and so this year I need to get up off my butt and do more things outside of the realm of my warm and cozy apartment. (I guess this links back to my New Year’s goal to do something that scares me.)

3. Reach 1,000 followers. Yes, numbers aren’t everything, and in my opinion, this is a lofty goal for 1 year. It’s not a contentment issue, it’s a pushing myself issue. If I want to reach more people with my writing, that means I need to become a better writer. That means I need to put more intentional time into the blog. That means I need to promote better. That means I actually need to sponsor other blogs. I need to make time to become a more active member of the blogging community.

4. Design my own webpage. I had a friend design my little corner of the internet when I first got serious about blogging the summer of 2013. However, it’s time for a facelift. Through Venus Trapped in Mars Blogging Tutorials, I have been tinkering around with different aspects of designing. I have wanted to learn html coding and blog designing for two years, and this is the year I am going to do it!

5. Open up my sponsorship again. Like I said, I tried it back in March or May, and did it for a couple months. I didn’t realize how overwhelming it would be to accept sponsors, though. I wasn’t organized, and I was kind of a crappy sponsorer, or whatever you call it. If I can meet goal #1 (becoming organized), then I think I would be better at this whole sponsoring thing.

So that’s it for me! What about you?

6 New Year’s Resolutions I Know I Can Keep

Good morning, world and Happy New Year!

Every year we (as in America and other parts of the world) come up with “New Year’s Resolutions.” We resolve to get thinner, eat cleaner, work out more.

Not me, not this year. I’m tired of making New Year’s Resolutions I know I won’t follow through. Please, am I actually going to go on an all-vegetable diet? Only if I have a disease where I’m not allowed to eat anything other than vegetables. And I would hate that.

So rather than get down and out about New Year’s Resolutions, I’m going to make a few this year I know that I can keep.

1. Oversleep my alarm. I undoubtedly oversleep my alarm at least three days of the week. That’s why  I have five alarms set to make sure I’m up and moving.

2. Shower enough so that I never stink. . . Now I can’t say “Shower every day,” because that would make my skin so dry and my hair would get brittle and fall out. Besides, it’s healthier not to shower every day. Don’t believe me? Ask Google. Google knows everything.

3. Binge watch a new show on Netflix. Binge watch enough so that you wake up from your Netflix stupor and feel bad about your lazy self.

4. Freak out about your senior project/ about graduation/ about finding a job/ about anything post college life.

5. Get nostalgic about everything in college. “Oh yeah! I remember when we walked on this sidewalk for the first time freshman year.” Proceed to get dramatic and teary eyed.

6. Burn yourself out by trying to be superwoman and do everything at the same time.

7. Know what you’re going to do with your life.

Yeah, I can’t keep that one.

But you know what I can do? Tell you about the new blogging group on Facebook that Tiffany and I are excited to introduce to you!

Welcome to Blogging Elite, a community of bloggers who get together to grow their blogs and make new friends! We wanted to create a space for bloggers to upload their content in new and creative ways. Rather than posting a blog post every day on the site, we have different threads for social media different days of the week. This way, we can meet other bloggers in all facets. November Goals

And before we know it, the first snow sprinkled the earth and melted and we blinked our eyes and November is upon us, which means, the holidays are upon us. All the “and bam, Christmas music” tweets are cracking me up because I know I am one of those people. Pai pleaded with me to wait until after Thanksgiving. Little does he know that he gets a 6 hour ride to Indiana with me Thanksgiving weekend, complete with my Christmas playlist that will most definitely be uploaded on my phone by that point. Because I LOVE CHRISTMAS.

But since I have stated multiple times in the past weeks phrases such as “What is my life.” “Where is my life going?” and “My life is a mess” as well as various other versions that are ocassionally sung, screamed, or cried, I think it behooves me to set up some goals for myself, just to help me through the end of the semester.

1. My daily planner is my best friend. Utilize it, and write in it every single day. I think I have everything in your head, which of course I do. And then again of course I’m going to forget and double book things and run around like a chicken with my head cut off.
Remember: STRESS KILLS THE BODY.
2. Read a piece of my fun book every single day. READ. It’s good for the soul. Optimally, I will choose to do this instead of scroll through Instagram before bed.
3. Spend less time on Instagram.
4. You know all those posts in my drafts box? Yeah. Publish the important ones by the end of the month. Throw away the others.
5. Eat less candy.
6. Say “no” more often. Say “no” to laziness. Say “no” to staying up late. Say “no” to eating all the chocolate candy currently sitting on the coffee table. Say “no” to spending time with people when I am mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted. Say “no” for the pure sake of my health.
7. Be more intentional in my conversations with friends, with strangers, in my prayer life. Stop being a mental hermit.
8. Take time for myself to clean, to blog, and to sing in the shower.
9. Buy a bulky, comfy, ugly sweater to wear on Thanksgiving.
10. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.

What about y’all? Do you have any goals you want to reach/reminders for yourself as we approach this busy holiday season? Comment below!
